The Department of Agro-Industry Technology at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is committed to transforming agricultural produce into value-added products through innovation, technology, and sustainable industrial practices. The department plays a key role in advancing Kenya’s agro-industrial sector by integrating science, technology, and entrepreneurship to support food security, job creation, and industrial growth.
Our academic programs blend theory with hands-on training to prepare students for careers in food processing, agro-product design, packaging, quality assurance, and agribusiness management. Students gain practical experience through laboratory work, industrial attachments, and field-based research that address real-world challenges in agro-industrial value chains.
The department also engages in applied research and community outreach, promoting innovation in agro-processing, product diversification, waste utilization, and sustainable production systems. Through collaboration with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and research institutions, the department strives to enhance productivity and competitiveness in Kenya’s agri-food sector.
By fostering creativity, technical expertise, and entrepreneurship, the Department of Agro-Industry Technology continues to produce graduates who are well-equipped to contribute to Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovation in agriculture and agri-business.
