The Department of Agro-Business and Extension Services at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is dedicated to advancing knowledge and innovation in agribusiness management, agricultural extension, and rural development. The department aims to equip students and practitioners with the skills, knowledge, and values needed to drive sustainable agricultural transformation and enhance livelihoods within farming communities.
Through a blend of classroom learning, fieldwork, and research, the department focuses on areas such as agricultural marketing, farm management, agripreneurship, value chain development, agricultural communication, and rural advisory services. Students are trained to analyze agricultural systems, design innovative business models, and provide effective extension services that link farmers with technology, markets, and information.
The department actively collaborates with government agencies, NGOs, farmer organizations, and private sector partners to promote effective knowledge transfer and adoption of modern agricultural practices. This engagement ensures that graduates are well-prepared to address real-world agricultural and socio-economic challenges.
In line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Department of Agro-Business and Extension Services continues to champion sustainable agriculture, agribusiness innovation, and community empowerment through education, research, and outreach.
